Rating: ★★★★★

TL;DR: Not as good as the first book but still a solid read.

Summary: When Easton travels to Gallacia as a favor to Miss Potter, they find their home empty, the caretaker dead, and the grounds troubled by a strange, uncanny silence.

The locals whisper of a strange breath-stealing being from Gallacian folklore that has taken up residence in Easton’s home . . . and in their dreams.

What I loved: The references to well known folklore and world building. Kingfisher is amazing at this!

What I didn’t: It was a little slow, but not enough to keep me from reading.

Mood: Under-the-blanket Creep Fest, Bite Sized Reads, Enter a Whole New World

Warnings:

  • Military-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) including flashbacks, nightmares, and panic attacks

  • Alcohol consumption

  • Physical illness and injury including chronic shoulder injury and pneumonia

  • Depiction of a dead body

  • Graphic body horror (theme)

  • Military enlistment during wartime discussed

  • Animal hunting mentioned

Who should read it: Anyone who read the first book, Anyone who likes to be creeped out, Anyone looking for a quick read!
