TL;DR: Read it. It's worth the hype.

Short summary: I find most Tiktok rec's to be overhyped and so I don't normally jump on the bandwagon and read something I see reviewed. That being said, I am SO glad I read this book.

This is probably one of my new favorite reads... ever.

I loved the story of Six and her growth from Diviner to her own person. I loved the relationships she had with Bartholomew, Rory, and Maude.

I loved the romance and how as Six got to know Rory and see who he really was, she grew to care about him. The banter between them was hilarious and had me giggling and kicking my feet. I loved the drawn out nature of this relationship, knowing they were headed for each other but not sure when it would happen. Rory's love for and respect for Six is absolutely beautiful to read.

The story itself had twists and turns that I really wasn't expecting and some that truly broke me. (I was crying at 4am when I finished it).

Overall this is one of my favorite reads in years. I cannot wait for the sequel. What an absolute delight.

What I loved:

  • Bartholomewwwwwww!!!

  • The world-building is delightful and immersive, without being overwhelming.

  • Six, as a character, is awesome.

What I didn’t:

  • I hate cliff-hangers and this leaves you on a pretty big one.

Mood: Middle-of-the-Night Page-Turners, Winter Blanket Fort Books, Flirty and Fun Read, Emotional Damage (the good kind)

Warnings:

List of trigger warnings: Detailed descriptions of death, murder, abuse and grief. I didn't find any of these to be especially traumatizing, but felt they should be mentioned all the same.

Open Door Romance - there are some descriptions of intimate scenes.

Who should read it: Everyone! But seriously, if you want a poignant story about loss and figuring out who you are and being loved for that, read this. It's hopeful and beautiful.
