TL;DR: This is a truly original story that is also incredibly moving, well worth the read.

Short summary: I originally put off reading this book because I assumed it was another Greek Retelling and at the time I just couldn't handle another one.

I am SO UPSET I didn't pay better attention and just read it. It's a fabulous and unique story that was so beautiful and atmospheric, and so so moving.

I loved it so much and it's definitely going on the favorites shelf.

What I loved:

  • Piranesi's voice (I listened to the audiobook, so audibly it was great, but also just his written voice. Asbsolutely delightful.)

  • The world-building is vibrant and feels like you're there. The descriptions are *chefs kiss*

What I didn’t:

  • You feel a little like you are out of the loop for most of this story, which is the point, but also can be a little annoying. Didn't take away from the enjoyment for me tho.

Mood: Curl Up With Tea, Bittersweet + Beautiful, Slow + Lush, Audiobook Freindly, Autmn Cozy Read,

Includes death, grief, murder, abuse and violence. None of them are very explicit or graphic.

No romance warning needed.

Who should read it: Someone who wants something interesting but comforting, with excellent world building and an MC you'll love (and continue to think about.)
