A Fig for all the Devils | C.S. Fritz
Rating: ★★★★★
TL;DR: Short and Fun but full of Meaning.
Short summary: Sometimes you just pick something up because you're bored and it looks good and it winds up being something you really really liked.
This is A Fig for all the Devils.
I found the audiobook on Spotify randomly and needed something to listen to. I'm so glad I did.
This was a beautiful story about grieving and growing and figuring things out. It mixed horror and fantasy with humor which is not an easy thing to do.
Death was hilarious but also horrifying. And the farther you got into this, the more you fear them.
That being said, the ending is so lovely and sweet. I just deeply enjoyed this whole thing.
What I loved:
The characterization of Death
The exploration of grief and dealing with loss
The audiobook is fabulous
What I didn’t:
Mood: Emotional Damage (the good kind), Gentle + Heartwarming, One-Sitting Read, Horror but make it Fun
Warnings:
Abuse & Violence: Graphic child abuse, physical abuse, and bullying.
Death & Loss: Suicidal ideation/suicide, domestic abuse, death of a parent, and heavy, pervasive grief.
Cruelty: Animal cruelty.
Horror Themes: Body horror, graphic descriptions of death, and supernatural/cryptid violence.
Substances: Mentions of alcoholism and addiction.
Other Elements:
Who should read it: Anyone who wants a really interesting story that delves into grief and loss.
